This news article will explain the history behind one of the lesser known and forgotten trailer parks of Austin Texas known as Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park.
The land where Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park originally belonged to Esther Cam McDaniel and W. P. Daniel. They purchased this parcel of land around 1920. Esther Cam McDaniel and W. P. Daniel sold the land on a warranty deed to W. A. Rosentritt on the date of March 17, 1932. (Ref: Travis County Deed Records, Volume 474, Page 630)
However the exact date of when Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park was established, chartered, or organized is unknown.
The land where Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park was located on had been specifically restricted and zoned as mobile home tracts for trailers in a wooded area near the former Bergstrom Air Force Base during the 1960s. To amend the use designation from "A" Residence District to "B" Residence District: Lots 7. 8. 11. 12 and 13 of Bergstrom Terrace, located at 1606-1700 and 1706-1802 Dalton Lane.
Part of Lot 11 belonging to Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park and Bergstrom Terrace Apartments was deeded and conveyed to the City of Austin on October 15, 1968. 0.49 acres of land, more or less, out of the J. Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park had advertised 3 mobile spaces available to rent out to tents in the Austin American newspaper on the date thereof Sunday, September 13, 1970. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/386578251/)
Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park was conveniently located next to Bergstrom Air Force Base and their shooting range. Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park had a somewhat boastful reputation with locals by 1975. Around 1980 is when FAA regulations required there not be any residential educational buildings be with in a flightpath of any air force base. So trailers at Bergstrom Terrace Mobile Park were hauled to different locations. No trace of this trailer park remains.
