Mixerr Album Reviews #1,244

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Jekyll Hyde & The Darkside - Born Dead.

Mix the grimey sounds of acid rap and electronic music and you have the result of The Darkside - Born Dead album from Grand Rapids, Michigan. The sounds off this album give off a dark mood and dark vibe. (A dark negative vibe to be exact.) The sounds off this album can be described as eerie. Take the raw sound from the streets and put it within the mixture of eerie sounds. The production sounds very outdated as the sound is very lo-fi meaning that the production sound has a low tech sound. But because the album was released on cassette in 1994, that is no surprise. Fans of rap music who enjoy the raw sound of Grand Rapids rap will enjoy this album. Horrorcore rap meets gangsta rap on the Born Dead album.

The title track Born Dead has some gruesome eerie sounds that you would hear on a NATAS album or EP. Born Dead seems to have some Esham, Project Born, and NATAS influences with both acid rap, gangsta rap, and horrorcore rap all incorporated into one sound. Gangsta rap meets horrorcore rap on Born Dead. The production sounds very outdated as the sound is very lo-fi meaning that the production sound has a low tech sound. But because the album was released on cassette in 1994, that is no surprise. The heavy bass makes up for the low tech production of course. The mood is very negative. Overall the track Born Dead has some gruesome sounds.

Street Demon is no street sermon as the sounds are rather gruesome. The production sounds very outdated as most of the sound already is. The mood is very negative. You can feel a negative vibe on Street Demon. It’s some hard shit.

Skeletons has the darks sounds you would expect to hear from grimey underground New York hip hop particularly grimey underground New York City hip hop from the 90s. The bass line has quite a jazzy feel. (Not too raspy though.) Overall Skeletons is ridden with medium bass.

I rate this album, Born Dead, 4/5****!
